CS 240A Final Presentation and Demo Schedules Every group will give a 10-minute presentation on their final project on either Monday, June 4, or Wednesday, June 6, and also a 10-minute demo on Friday, June 8. Please email John (gilbert@cs.ucsb.edu) to sign up for (1) a choice of Monday or Wednesday for your talk, and (2) a specific time on Friday for your demo (see below). The first six requests for talks on Monday will be honored; if there aren't six requests for Monday, I'll flip coins to decide which groups go on Monday and which go on Wednesday. On June 4 and June 6, we will begin at 9am sharp with project presentations. Each presentation will have 10 minutes for the presenters plus 5 minutes for questions and discussion. I will be brutally strict with the clock, since we need to finish six presentations in an hour and a half. It is *really* hard to give a talk in this format (sometimes called "SIAM conference format"). A short talk is much harder to prepare than a long talk. But knowing how to give a very short talk will be very valuable to you, whether your audience is collaborators, customers, or politicians. The key point is very simple: ** The purpose the talk is to convince the listener to read the paper. ** You don't have time to give all the details. But your audience can go read the details, if only you make them excited enough to go look for them. Your project web site will have a writeup with the details, and links to papers and references.
