Workshop Format

The workshop will be held on November 5th and 6th, 1998 (with a reception on the evening of Nov. 4th), at the Mark Hopkins InterContinental Hotel in the Nob Hill area of San Francisco.  The two-day event will be structured to facilitate a high degree of interaction. There will be oral and poster/demo presentations of current research, as well as invited talks, panel discussions, and open discussion time.  The format is intended to emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of perceptual user interfaces, and to expose the participants to the main issues and challenges in each of the related research areas.

Meals (breakfast and lunch) are included in the registration fee and will be served at the hotel.

Note on Sponsorship
The workshop is independent, not directly sponsored by a professional society or company (although Microsoft Corp. made a contribution to get things going).  This was decided early on, primarily to ensure freedom to make our own decisions - but also because of time constraints.  We will re-evaluate this situation for future meetings.
