Accounts
What happens to my CS account after I graduate?
By policy, when accounts expire, their contents are only kept for a
limited amount of time before they are deleted (unless other
arrangements are made).
This process is referenced in both the College's "Acceptable Use Policy"
and the notification of account expiration email (sent four times before
the account's expiration).
From the College's AUP:
<quote>
By University policy, all student materials must be removed from storage
facilities by the end of the quarter in which the student became
ineligible to use the facility. This includes data, so please remove
your files from your account before it is closed. We will not restore
materials damaged or deleted after account expiration.
</quote>
From the notification message sent to users when their account is
getting ready to expire:
<quote>
When the expiration date is reached, the account will
automatically be closed. The account will not be deleted
for a few weeks, in the event that you need to reuse it
again. The expiration date for each account is determined
by the department that owns the account. For students,
the expiration date is generally set to their expected
date of graduation.
