The linux machines have a wide variety of software installed including a number of compilers (gcc, javac, etc.), editors (vi, emacs, pico...), and much more. For a complete listing, you can do an "rpm -qa" while logged in.

The Windows machines in the CS Windows Lab have MS Office installed as well as Visual Studio .Net, and a few other tools.
