Abstract

Every aspect of our lives today is impacted by technology in some way. Our world is exploding with interesting devices and information that make our lives better, more interesting, more social, more automated, and more advanced. Computer science provides the theory, algorithms, and engineering behind these technological advances. It also provides the abstractions necessary to broaden participation in computing, to reason about complex systems, and to create new knowledge and discoveries. In this talk, I will discuss the role of computer science in our lives, opportunities for research, and recent advances in the areas of cloud computing and mobile/sensor systems that signal their inevitable and exciting convergence.

Everyone welcome!
