AppScale: Open-Source Platform-as-a-Service

In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of AppScale, an open-source cloud platform that implements the Google App Engine APIs as well as other popular APIs for computation- and data-intensive applications. We overview these APIs and provide directions on how to install, configure, and deploy AppScale and applications that execute over AppScale and employ the services it exports. We conclude with a summary of the on-going research we are pursuing using this cloud fabric as part of investigations into the next-generation cloud technologies.
