Cricket: Indian Premier League 2008: Batting Stats
Updated on 2 June 2008    •See Bowling Stats
This page plots the batting average versus Strikerate of batsmen in IPL 2008. The basic idea is that in Twenty20 cricket, average alone is not sufficient to see the quality of a batsman. Strikerate is also equally important. This graph shows the relative value the different batsmen. An ideal player would have a high average with a high strike-rate; towards the right-top of the graph. The size of the circle is proportional to the runs scored.

MouseOver each data point to see the names of the players. Use the graph controls to visualize the data as needed. You can change the X-axis, Y-axis, Size of the circle and color gradient.

Notes:
  • The other variation of visualizing the same data is here. There are some features of that API that are absent in Google Motion Chart and would be very useful here.
  • Currently, the data for this motion chart has to be manually updated in the Google Spreadsheet. (Google Docs API may be able to automate this). I will do my best to update it daily
  • I have access to data from 07 May 2008 only. If you know how to get the data from Cricinfo as of a particular previous date, please let me know.
