Cricket: Indian Premier League 2008: Bowling Stats
Updated on 16 May 2008    •See Batting Stats
This page plots the bowling average versus economy rate of bowlers in IPL 2008. The basic idea is that in Twenty20 cricket, average alone is not sufficient to see the quality of a bowlers. Economy-rate is also equally important. This graph shows the relative value of the different bowler. An ideal bowler would have a low average with a low economy-rate; towards the left-bottom of the graph. The size of the circle is proportional to the number of wickets taken.

MouseOver each data point to see the names of the players. Use the graph controls to visualize the data as needed. You can change the X-axis, Y-axis, size of the circle and color gradient. Use the time slider (or play button) to see how the stats change with time.

Notes:
  • Bowlers with no averages are assigned a default average of 5 more than the highest.
  • The other variation of visualizing the same data is here. There are some features of that API that are absent in Google Motion Chart and would be very useful here.
  • Currently, the data for this motion chart has to be manually updated in the Google Spreadsheet. (Google Docs API may be able to automate this). I will do my best to update it daily.
  • I have access to data from 07 May 2008 only. If you how to get the data from Cricinfo as of a particular previous date, please let me know.
