A Basic One Hop Ping/Response

-  SmartBits generates and transmits multiple ICMP echo packets of a size X and at rate R designated for the local PC attached via ethernet.

-  The PC receives each echo request and responds with his own echo reply packet, which he sends back to the SmartBits.

-  Using internal counters the SmartBits can compare the number of packets received and the number of packets transmitted along with rates and error detection.
 

Hardware Required

1 PC with an Ethernet Adapter
1 Smartbits unit with 1 interface card
and
1 crossover ethernet cable
or
2 straight ethernet cables and a hub

LAYER 2 SETUP

assign a generic MAC address to SmartBits and place it in the MAC source field
locate the actual MAC address on PC's net card and place it in the MAC dest field

LAYER 3 SETUP

assign an IP address to the SmartBits and place it in the IP source field
assign a similar IP address to the PC and place it in the IP dest field

OTHER SETUP

Choose the Packet Size you would like to send (Bytes)
Choose the Rate at which you would like to send packets (pps)
