There is also a second objective here. When designing network protocols, it is critical to be as exact as possible. Furthermore, when implementing a protocol, it is critical to follow the directions to the letter. Therefore, the second objective is to make everyone aware (albeit with a relatively simple example), that following directions is critical!
In the body of the email put the following information on a SINGLE line:
------------------------------------------------------------------------ For example: To: almeroth@cs.ucsb.edu Subject: subscribe 176a ALMEROTH,KEVIN CS PHD almeroth@cs.ucsb.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012(Note, do not include the dashes or the ruler line... those are just to show the column alignment.) To receive full credit on this assignment, it is imperative that you follow directions EXACTLY. Be especially careful not to use MIME types, or include an HTML version of the email, or append a .signature file, etc.
At some point on Monday I will send email to the class mailing list to ensure that everyone who is signed up for the class is on the mailing list.
