I intend to pursue a study program leading to a PhD degree at <university name> and, as I am going to apply to a teaching or research assistantship position, I would like to make some preliminary contacts with you.
Throughout my undergraduate study, I have been interested to improve my knowledge beyond the limits normally imposed by a standard study program and I always tried to keep in touch with the most advanced topics of the fast- growing computer industry. As one of my goals was that my research should be useful (of practical or theoretical utility), I have approached some of the fields that, in my opinion, will influence the industry in the future: Networks, Parallel and Distributed Systems, and Operating Systems.
I have important networks knowledge, gained during the three years worked as a System Administrator on Novell and UNIX systems. I also have research experience in the distributed systems domain, as I worked for an experimental distributed message delivery system with fault tolerance for critical, encrypted, mail transmission. In the parallel systems domain, I can mention my graduation thesis: "Software Developing System for the OCCAM Language", for which I designed a compiler and a runtime engine for the INMOS Transputer's parallel language, OCCAM.
As I am eager to continue my work in one of those fields, I would be very grateful if you could send me any information regarding the research projects available. Also, if you need any information regarding my academic record, GRE results, employment history or any other data you may need, I would be happy to offer them as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Bogdan Cocosel
