I'm Chris Bunch, and I'm a Ph.D student in the Computer Science department here at UC Santa Barbara. My research interests are all over the map, but very generally fall into the area of concurrent, distributed programming languages. I'm working with Chandra Krintz and am a member of the Racelab.
I'm currently working on open-source software that provides an
platform to run Google App Engine apps on, named AppScale. Here's what it's
all about:
Summary of Research Work Thus Far
Spring 2009
Spring 2008
Winter 2008
- The Wizard of Oz (CS 263, Implementations of Modern Programming Languages): The Oz programming language integrates an incredible number of programming language styles and constructs. But how usable does that make it?
Fall 2007
- Multigrid Methods with CUDA (CS 290I, GPGPU and 3DUI): Working with Tobias Hollerer and Brent Oster to implement approximate the solutions to the heat equation with multigrid methods. As this has already been done before, we are using the GPU to expand this work into new territories.
- State of the Cell (CS 290N, Parallel Architectures): Working with Fred Chong and Nelson Ijih to investigate the true possibilities behind the novel Cell architecture. Is it as difficult as people let on? What's so hard about it? Check it out and see!
Spring 2007
- fMRI Analysis Automator: Worked with Beau Ances (UCSD) and Jack Alanen (CSUN) to create a solid user interface using Java Swing and process to automate data collection and manipulation of functional MRI (fMRI) data collected over several years through MATLAB.
