CIAA 2003 Conference Information

Meeting Location

The conference will be held at the Engineering II Pavilion in the UCSB campus. The location of Engineering II Pavilion is shown on the accompanying UCSB campus map. (Engr II building is close to the East Gate.)

Paper Presentations

We will provide a laptop (for powerpoint presentations), a data projector and overhead projectors at the conference room.

Instructions for Poster Papers: Each poster paper will be provided a 39 inches (wide) x 31 inches (high) posterboard. Each poster board can fit 8 sheets of A4 or Letter size paper. You are advised to use only fonts that are legible from 3-5 feet.

Transportation to UCSB

Van Schedule

Every morning two vans will collect the attendees from the hotels Motel 6, Holiday Inn, and Best Western. Departure times from the hotels are:

Other Means of Transportation Between the Hotels and UCSB

• All three hotels are in walking distance from each other. Best Western South Coast Inn and Holiday Inn hotels provide shuttle services. There is no shuttle service for Motel 6. There is a bus stop across the street from Motel 6 where you can take a bus to the campus.
  • Best Western South Coast Inn: There is a shuttle every half hour from 7:30AM to 11:30AM. You need to call for shuttle from 11:30AM to 10:30PM. You can take this shuttle to and from the campus and the airport.
  • Holiday Inn: There is a shuttle to and from the Santa Barbara Airport.
• MTD Bus: Bus #9 leaves from across the street of Motel 6 (Encina and Calle Real) 32 minutes after the hour, beginning at 7:32 AM with the last bus at 5:32 PM. It goes to the bus circle at UCSB near North Hall. It takes approximately 25 minutes. The return is 5 minutes after the hour, beginning at 8:05 AM with the last bus at 6:05 PM.
• Taxi Cab: Taxi fare from the hotels to the UCSB campus is about $10 - $15 -- the price is the same for 1 or more passengers.

Computer Access

Computer and Internet access is available in CSIL, Room 1138 in Engineering I. A guest account has been created for CIAA attendees. The location of CSIL is shown on the accompanying map. CSIL is at the south entrance of the Engineering I building on the ground floor.

Reception and Banquet

The locations of the welcoming reception and the conference dinner (banquet) are shown on the accompanying map. The welcoming reception will be held in the area outside Corwin Pavilion at the eastern end of University Center (UCEN). The banquet will take place in the Faculty Club, located in the south-western side of UCSB campus.

Parking Instructions

All visitors must display a commuter parking permit, which is valid in "C" parking lots only. Permits may be purchased at the kiosks located at either of the campus entrances, or at the Parking Services office. A daily permit costs $7. Visitors without a permit may park in any metered stall. ($0.25 per 10 minutes; maximum duration of 40 minutes.)
