Fall kickoff concert & dance party in Santa Barbara: Sunday September 14
Second and Fourth Saturday dance class in Santa Paula
First Sunday Scandinavian dancing in Santa Barbara
Help us kick off this year's Scandie music and dance season in style!
The afternoon begins with a very special visiting musician from Sweden, who will present a Scandinavian fiddle concert at 2:00. Johan Holland is just 29 years old and has devoted over half his life to the folk music traditions of Dalarna, a major center of Swedish folk music and dance. Johan won the Pål Olle Scholarship while at the Falun Conservatory of Music, and has studied under renowned fiddler Jonny Soling in Malung and led the Malung Lilla Spelmanslag.
Following the concert, we will have live dance music from 2:45 to 5:00 by Skandia South fiddlers and visiting friends, with beginning dance instruction by our wonderful Santa Paula Class teaching staff. This is a great way to find out what Scandinavian dancing is like.
Dancing begins at 2:45 with simple walking dances that anyone can do. Then we will teach the basic turning dances schottis and snoa, and progress to more advanced dances at the end of the afternoon.
Wear laced shoes, preferably with leather soles.
Everyone is welcome; no experience or partner necessary.

Unlike the basic instruction + social dance format used a couple of years ago, the new First Sundays format will be aimed at dancers who already know the basics and just want to dance what they know and practice what they have learnt. Dances will be by request, with the aim of doing each dance at least twice (if not more, as desired) and with short ad hoc instruction by the group (when requested).
Send dance requests to Gene beforehand so he can attempt to track down tunes that he doesn't already have.
CONTACT: Gene Lerner, email@example.com
COST: $20 total per session for the room, split among attendees.
