About Me

My research focus is to develop computer vision techniques for mobile augmented reality. I am especially interested in vision-based modeling and camera localization. The goal of my work is to enable sophisticated mobile augmented reality experiences which can be made widely available. I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2012. I earned my B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from UCSB as well.

Augmented Reality

From my dissertation:
Augmented reality (AR) is the enhancement of perception by adding information to one's senses. As opposed to virtual reality which replaces one's view of the world, augmented reality places virtual content on top of the real world to create an informative or entertaining experience. The uses of AR technology are diverse, from heads-up displays in fighter pilot helmets to interactive tourism maps on smartphones. The last ten years have seen growth in consumer applications of augmented reality, thanks in part to the proliferation of sophisticated mobile devices such as smartphones which combine a display, camera and other sensors into a capable interactive platform.
