Bio
Lamia M. Youseff is currently a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at
the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Her general research
interests include operating systems, high performance computing and
virtualization techniques. Her doctoral research is focused on
virtualization aspects for scientific and HPC
applications, under the supervision of Prof. Rich Wolski at UCSB. She
received the prestigious UC Chancellor Graduate Fellowship award to
pursue her graduate career at UCSB in 2003. Since then, she has also
worked as a research assistant and teaching assistant at the department
of computer science at UCSB. She was furthermore elected as the UCSB
Graduate Student Association Vice President for Academic Affairs in
2005-2006, and served on the UCSB graduate senate council and several
other senate committees.
Prior to joining UCSB, Lamia received her B.Sc. from The American
University in Cairo (AUC), with Summa Cum Laude and a GPA of 4.0/4.0.
During her undergraduate tenure, she received several awards including
the international ACM-UPE Scholarship Award in 2002, AUC President's cup
in 2003 and the exemplary student award from AUC School of Engineering
in 2002. Lamia was the president of the local AUC ACM student chapter,
and the contest manager for the ACM North Africa and Middle East
Regional Programming Contest (ANARC) for two consecutive years
(2001-2002). She is a member of both ACM and IEEE.
