Announcements
(2/22) The schedule now reflects the updated swap between Mike and Bo.
I'm back... and I finally updated the Schedule page. I hope everyone remembered that there was no class last Friday (2/4). I believe everyone is now on the schedule for their mini-presentation. (If Vicky or Ajay wants to go this Friday instead of Feb 18th, let me know.)
We'll try to make up at least some of the missed time by going until a bit after 5pm for the rest of the meetings.
Reminder: Email me your preferred "special presentation" topic (except those already on the schedule)
Reminder: No class on Friday, January 21
See the syllabus for info on the course and the book we will be reading
The book has been published under two names:
The Universal Computer: The Road from Leibniz to Turing (Hardcover, Oct 2000)
Engines of Logic: Mathematicians and the Origin of the Computer (Paperback, Sept 2001)
As far as I can tell, the books are identical. So it doesn't matter which one you buy.
Get a head start and buy the book now! Also, peruse through some of the web site on the Links page.
Here is the book's introduction, and here are sample pages from Amazon.com
Here are a couple reviews of "The Universal Computer" - #1, #2.
