lab02: Defining Functions

Goals for this lab

By the time you have completed this lab, you should be able to

• Write a function to solve a basic mathematical problem, and test that function (Exercise ex05)
• Write a function to draw a basic shape, and test that function by drawing some shapes (Exercise ex06)

If you are using your laptop during your lab (the 3pm laptop group), you also need to add a file to your ex05 submission with the "MAC Address" for your wireless card (on or Mac's, your "Airport Id"). The file should be named like this, using your First and Last name:

• ChrisAdamsWireless.txt
• JaneJonesWireless.txt
• etc.

If you are not sure how to do that, we'll give you instructions during today's lab.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: (Mesa Lab only) Log in to your workstation, and attach to your N: drive

See Step 1 and Step 2 from lab 1 if you need a reminder on how to do this.

Step 2: Bring up the program called IDLE

See Step3 from lab1 if you need a reminder on how to do this.

Step 3: Complete Exercise Ex05, and submit it on GauchoSpace.

Follow the instructions to complete this exercise and submit it on GauchoSpace

Evaluation and Grading

Details are listed inside the link for exercise 5.

Due Date: 10/15/2008 (5pm)

Exercise ex05 is due next Wednesday at 5pm. You should try to complete as much of them as you can during today's lab. If you cannot complete them, you can work on them during the week. If you have questions, come to office hours for help:

• Thu October 9, 2-4pm, Dr. Conrad in Harold Frank Hall, room 2114
• Mon October 13, 1-2pm, Camilla Fiorese, Phelps Hall 1413.
• Tue October 14, 2-3pm, Dr. Conrad in Harold Frank Hall, room 2114

You can also ask questions during next week's lab, but ideally you should be finished or "almost finished" with both Ex05 when you come to lab next week.
