Departmental Facilities
You should use the department's machines to complete your projects.
Yes -- I know that many of you have access to your own Linux boxes, but we
will be using Grid infrastructure software maintained by the CS administrative
staff and members of my research group. We cannot hope to ensure that your
personal versions will work compatibly even if we give you the software.
Therefore, you can develop on any system you like, but you will be graded on
how well your code runs on the department's machines. At present, you should
use
- CSIL: Engineering I, room 1138, Linux on X86
- GSL: Engineering I, room 1132, Linux on X86
You should make sure that your code is portable to all of the
O.S./architecture combinations that are listed on this page as that is part of
the fun and excitement concomitant with Grid computing.

Project Submission Instructions
Use the script /cs/student/chrabakh/pub/290submit to turn in your labs. This script is really simple - it tars up all the files in the directory where it runs and mails the compressed tarball to both TAs. Just cd to the directory where your work resides, run 290submit with no arguments, and follow the prompts.
Helpful guidelines for 290submit:
- Check your working directory for any binaries, static libraries, images, or huge data files and clear them out before submission. Ideally your submission will contain just source code, makefiles, and documentation.
- If you experience any error while running 290submit, contact the TAs immediately so they can fix it.
- You may submit as many times as you want up to the project deadline; only the most recent submission will be used. Spam at will.
- You will receive a confirmation email when the submission is received. This confirmation will be sent to your CS email address. If you don't get the confirmation within a few minutes, contact a TA.
Late Policy
Sorry - assignments will not be accepted late.
Anything not turned in by the deadline
will be given a grade of 0. The submission script will not accept submissions after the deadline.
Please - submit what you have, even if it's not perfect. That's far, far better than a zero.
