The Network Science Group at UCSB is looking for a Research Scientist with
expertise in Databases and Data mining with emphasis on graphs and network
science. The position is supported by a recent grant from the Army on
Information Networks, a part of the Information Networks Academic
Research Center (INARC) under its Network Science Collaborative Technology
Alliance (NS CTA). Other participants in the information network center effort
are the University of Illinois, IBM, City University of New York, and a number
of subawardees.
The Army has also awarded three other academic research
centers under the NS CTA: Social Networks, Communication Networks, and
Interdisciplinary Networks, to
integrate the work of the three network-type-specific centers. The four Centers
will work in close collaboration with each other and with Government
researchers.
The grand challenge of NS CTA is to develop science that
enables the modeling, design, analysis, and prediction of behaviors of networks,
and to develop fundamental underpinnings to enable humans and networks of
disparate information sources to discover and optimize information and knowledge
from the full range of structured and unstructured sources.
The duties of the research scientist will be to
systematically develop the foundation needed for information networks including:
Besides original research on the above topics, the research
scientist will also be responsible for coordinated research across the various
research groups within the information network center and across the four
centers. In particular, the scientist will work directly
with data mining and database researchers at UIUC and IBM.
The UCSB team includes Ambuj Singh (Computer Science,
Principal Investigator), Xifeng Yan (Computer Science), Tobias Höllerer
(Computer Science), and B.S. Manjunath (Electrical & Computer Engineering).
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in computer science, demonstrated background
in data analysis, data mining, and good communication skills. The length of
employment can be up to five years. To
apply, please send resume to
