Gang is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara. He works in SAND Lab, co-advised by Prof. Ben Y. Zhao and Prof. Heather Zheng. Gang received a bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University in 2010. He is the recipient of PhD Dissertation Fellowship from UC Santa Barbara (2015), and Best Practical Paper Award from ACM SIGMETRICS (2013).
Gang's research interests are Privacy and Security, Online Social Networks, Crowdsourcing and Mobile Networks. Much of his work is measurement-driven and modeling based. Gang's interests in privacy and security are closely related to web services like social and crowdsourcing systems. The goal is to uncover emerging threats and develop efficient defense techniques.
After his Ph.D. in 2016, Gang first worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science in Virginia Tech. Then in Fall 2019, he joined the Department of Computer Science at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
