CS 595G: Hacking Club Seminar

This seminar covers various topics related to vulnerability analysis and hacking. A deep understanding of the details of both the vulnerabilities that make security compromises possible and the countermeasures that are required to detect and block the attacks is a necessary prerequisite to address the ever-changing set of security issues that affect applications, operating systems, and networks. The seminar has a practical emphasis, and it is geared towards learning new tools and techniques in a group setting.

CS 594 - Unconscious Memory and the Human Mind (Part I)

This course brings the intensively researched area of human memory in neuroscience (and, within this, the field of unconscious memory) together with the rich elaborations of the unconscious in the world literary archive and with new cognitive models emerging from the accelerating field of artificial intelligence. By situating key neuroscientific findings on ‘unconscious memory’ within cross-cultural representations of memory in the world literary archive, it will introduce students to the dynamical relations between brain, body and culture.

595J: Preparing for your Academic Job Search

Calling all graduating PhD students pursuing an academic position!  This 595J course will help you prepare for your academic job search.  We will discuss the application process, interviews, and job talks.  We will go over how to write a good research and teaching statement.  We will talk about what to look for in an academic department, and what sorts of questions to ask during your interview.  In the second half of the quarter, you will get the opportunity to practice your job talk in front of the class for feedback.

CS 595J -- Seminar in Network Science

This quarter we will tackle the broad topic of dynamical networks, including the theoretical and empirical analysis, modeling and control, of these networks. This topic spans many different domains (social networks, animal migration networks, robotic networks, epidemic networks, etc.). Seminar participants will be asked to present and discuss the findings of a relevant paper. They may choose from a list provided, or select another paper.
